Get involved
The National Campaign for Transit Justice works to win more transit funding and better policy through supporting grassroots organizing and national level advocacy. The campaign is supported by a broad range of groups across the country and is coordinated by Just Strategy, a national center for organizing.
We support support our organizations members by:
- Providing 1:1 coaching and support for local and state campaigns.
- Providing staff and volunteer training around: community organizing, base building, building and executing campaigns, leadership development, group facilitation, storytelling and collection, and more.
- Facilitating a weekly peer-learning call where groups from across the country gather to share experiences, tactics, and best practices; learn about the latest research and resources available for transit advocates; and engage with efforts to win funding and policy at the federal level to support transit.
- Creating resources, toolkits, and reports for organizers and advocates.
- Leading learning cohorts around topics such as: building relationships with organized labor, exploring models for building grassroots power, raising transit as an issue in elections, and more.
- Participate in activities throughout the year to highlight the need for transit, such as Transit Equity Day, Transit Workers Appreciation Day, and Week Without Driving.
- Engage regularly with members of congress to highlight the work you’re doing, establish yourself as a resource for their offices, and drive home the need for additional funding and better policy.
- Connect us with transit riders locally so that we can collect their stories for our Transit Tuesday series.
- Sign on to open letters and letters of support that we send out periodically, as your organization is able.
- Participate in our weekly Thursday calls as you are able and available. We will sometimes ask you to present something you’re working on if we think the other groups may find it helpful!

FAQs
Does my organization need to pay to become a member?
No. It costs nothing to join the National Campaign. When you are able, we do encourage members to join our calls, respond to our calls-to-action, and engage in periodic NCTJ activities around key events like Transit Equity Day and Week Without Driving. We will do our best to ensure that these activities align with your existing efforts and campaigns so we’re not adding to your plate.
What if my organization isn’t transit-specific?
Our coalition includes all types of organizations, including walk/walk/mobility groups, environmental organizations, disability rights organizations, labor organizations, multi-issue organizations for whom transit is only one element, and so on.
What if I’m an individual who isn’t engaged with an organization?
If you’re an individual looking to get engaged in advocacy efforts, we encourage you to find a NCTJ membership organization and get involved at your local or state level. Individuals can also sign up to share your transit story, which we send to Congress every week as a part of our Transit Tuesday series to highlight the need for additional investments in transit.
