OUR VICTORIES
The National Campaign for Transit Justice began as a response to the emergencies faced by public transit systems around the country. The pandemic and the resulting economic crisis pushed public transit around the country to the brink of disaster.
We mobilized riders, transit workers, small businesses, and transit agencies to #SaveTransit in the immediate aftermath of the pandemic.
In 2020, through our guiding set of Transit Justice Principles, the campaign successfully advocated for $69 billion in federal support for transit.
When President Biden took office, the campaign expanded upon that early victory.
In 2021, we won the largest-ever investment in public transit through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law which included $109 billion for public transit.
In 2022, we won an additional $32 billion in funding for public transit through the Inflation Reduction Action, including $27 billion for greenhouse gas reduction, and funding for clean heavy-duty vehicles and neighborhood access grants.
Most recently, in 2023, we won a new Greenhouse Gas Rule that will protect our environment and limit greenhouse gas emissions from public transit.
The National Campaign for Transit Justice is working to ensure Congress fully funds transit moving forward. We aim to save transit from the fiscal cliff created by the pandemic crisis and ensure just transit drives the future of the economy.
The campaign is supported by a broad range of transit groups across the country and is coordinated by Just Strategy.
